DBZ offers an incomparably beautiful setting for those who wish to acquaint themselves with Rinzai Zen Buddhist practice in a monastic environment. Our introductory workshops emphasize the basics: zazen (sitting posture and breathing), chanting, formal procedures for meals, and work practice.
Each workshop begins on Friday late afternoon with orientation class, and the weekend includes Morning Service (chanting), zazen, work, vegetarian meals, tea and free study time. Saturday evenings include a talk given by Abbot Eido Shimano Roshi or a senior student. The workshop concludes with an informal lunch on Sunday afternoon.
The weekend fee is $200.00 per person, and individuals as well as groups are welcome. Groups may arrange for a workshop during the week. Please reserve at least two weeks in advance by calling Dai Bosatsu Zendo at (845) 439-4566.
